In the heart of Copenhagen, the German hotel chain 25Hours Hotels has completed the construction of its newest hotel, on Papirøen (Paper island) in Copenhagen Harbour.
Historic location on an artificial island
Papirøen's history goes back more than 300 years with, among other things, a shipyard, artillery depots and salt and coal depots. Later in 1958, the island got its name when large warehouses were built to store newsprint.
In recent years, the island has housed, among other things, street food and artistic activities in the same style as the surrounding recreation areas.
In the coming years, the area will be transformed into a modern city quarter with ground-breaking architecture, such as the innovative Vandkulturhuset, hotels, restaurants, housing and unique cultural offerings.
Industrial design and atmosphere
25hours Hotels are known for their creative and unconventional approach to hotel decor, and Paper Island is no exception. The hotel is designed to reflect the island's history and Copenhagen's culture with a modern twist. Guests can expect a mix of design, art and local culture, creating a unique and welcoming atmosphere.
A consistent theme in the hotel's decor is summer in a maritime environment. This is reflected in the choice of colors and details on the hotel's ground floor. Despite the location in the middle of Copenhagen, you can expect an atmosphere of being in a summer house close to the water.
Another conscious design choice made is to leave all the installations on the ceiling visible to guests and visitors, to emphasize the industrial history of the area.
Wibe Group has been supplying Stago cable trays, Performa mesh trays, Wibe cable ladders and installation trays, and suspension systems to the project.
Installer with a creative mindset
"Instead of hiding the installations with a suspended ceiling, the client has chosen to leave them exposed as a part of the interior design of the hotel's ground floor. It places significantly greater demands on the planning of the walkways when the technical installations must be visible to hotel guests. Every detail is important" explains project manager at Bravida Danmark, Clemens Slott.
An example of a quirky and playful solution is to use Wibe's W4 installation tray for hanging ceiling lights.
Clemens Slott continues:
"It is always an advantage that our installers have good knowledge of Wibe's products and feel confident using them, especially when we here go for the special solution. And if we encounter technical challenges with Wibe products, we can always quickly and easily get hold of Henrik Geertsen, our salesperson at Wibe Group. Wibe has a wide product range, which is perfect for a project like this, where we need both mesh trays, cable trays, cable ladders and suspension systems. Throughout the project, we had a very good dialogue with the wholesaler and Henrik to ensure that we had the right products when we needed them”.
Not the first time Wibe delivers to the 25 Hours Hotel
Contrary to the rough, industrial and maritime environment that characterizes the hotel on Papirøen, 25 Hours Hotel also has a hotel located in Indre by, a stone's throw from Nørreport Station. Here Wibe Group has delivered cable support to an environment that is more colorful and located in an old university building.
Henrik Geertsen, salesman at Wibe Group, says:
"Our versatile range in cable support means that we can supply products for every task. Papirøen is a special project, where our products will be visible to the guests. It clearly shows that installations does not necessarily need to be hidden away, but can be used as a part of the design and atmosphere. This required close cooperation with the installer Bravida, which is largely the reason why the project was so successful.”
